Supreme Stakes Odds: Three cheers for Hooray in Goodwood Group 3

The Group 3 Supreme Stakes heads the afternoon of racing at Goodwood on Sunday. Ten runners are set to go to post in this seven furlong race on ground described as good to soft. Bookmakers Bet365 are struggling to split three at the head of the betting in what looks like a very competitive renewal. Doncaster Rover, Hooray and Libranno can all be backed at odds of 7/2.

Kieren Fallon takes the ride on Doncaster Rover, who was a winner last time out at York just over a week ago in Listed company. The five year old trained by David Brown ran well here in Group company at the Glorious meeting finishing fifth in the Lennox Stakes behind Strong Suit and followed that up with another good perfomance at Newbury, again in Group 2 conditions and again finishing fifth in the Hungerford Stakes. He's closely matched with Libranno on the course and distance running last month and the pair could be there at the finish again on Sunday.

Hooray comes here off the back of a good two year old campaign as a filly last year. The Sir Mark Prescott trained three year old will get four pounds on her market rivals and is three pounds better off than Doncaster Rover on official ratings. She's either been hot or not this season, winning the Surrey Stakes at the Epsom Derby meeting but returning poor efforts at Royal Ascot and Tipperary on her two efforts since. She likes the ground and if can return to that Epsom form could well be a threat.

Libranno is the top rated horse in the field off 112 and comes here off a poor showing in a Group 1 at Deauville last time out. A winner of the Group 3 Criterion Stakes at Newmarket earlier in the year and a credible fourth in the July Cup on the same course. The Richard Hannon trained three year old is closely matched with Doncaster Rover, having finished one place ahead of him here in the Lennox Stakes. The ground may be of concern if there's too much juice in it, but a winner on the track as a two year old definitely warrants co-favourtism.

The Cheka is a stand out fourth favourite at odds of 7/1 with Bet 365. The Eve Johnson Houghton trained five year old won his first Group contest at Haydock earlier in the season but has since gone on to be well beaten by Libranno in the Criterion Stakes and also finished well down the field last time out in the Hungerford Stakes. He goes well on this ground however and looks the best alternative to the three market leaders.

Further down the betting is the Irish raider Lechevalier Choisi trained by James Bernard McCabe. Has run well on his last two starts, finishing third in behind Doncaster Rover last week at York. 12/1 shot High Standing won a conditions stakes at Haydock earlier this Summer but chucked in a real stinker last time here in the Stewards Cup finishing plumb last, whilst Jacqueline Quest, winner of the 2010 1,000 Guineas before being demoted and modest form since needs to show more and can be backed at 12/1.
