Quito de La Roque will bid to make it six wins in a row when he takes on seven others in Wednesday's Lexus Chase at Leopardstown. The 7-year-old is on a five race winning run ahead of the 3 mile contest and is the 6/4 favourite with Ladbrokes as Colm Murphy's gelding attempts to secure a third Grade One victory.
The ante-post favourite has won six of seven outings over fences so far and certainly wasn't embarrassed when beaten by Boston's Angel at this meeting last year. The Punchestown Champion Novice Chase winner claimed the JNWine.com Champion Chase last time out as he rallied late on to beat Sizing Europe, who has since improved that form by winning the Tingle Creek.
Quite De La Roque should be sharper for that outing at Down Royal and is undoubtedly the one to beat, although Robert Hennessy will be hoping that Rubi Light can get the 3 mile trip at the first time of asking. The 3/1 shot fell on his seasonal reappearance at Gowran when he seemed to have the race won, but he has since returned to form with victory in the John Durkan Memorial Chase. The 6-year-old steps up from that two and a half mile effort and the Ryanair Chase third's strong travelling style and the drying Leopardstown ground should suit.
Paul Nolan's Joncol trailed Rubi Light by five lengths in the John Durkan and the 2010 Hennessy winner will have no such worries about stepping back up to three miles this week. The 8-year-old should enjoy the extra distance, although a bit of give in the ground would be welcome. Ladbrokes go 4/1 for the son of Bob's Return to improve on his third place finish in this race last year.
Elsewhere, Paul Nicholls' Noland (10/1) is the leading British hope amongst a sea of Irish contenders and the lightly raced 10-year-old is set to make a first appearance since he beat What A Friend in the AON Chase last February.
Also priced 10/1 is Jonjo O'Neill's Synchronised, who has swerved the chance to defend his Welsh National title and heads to Ireland instead. O'Neill was reluctant to see his 8-year-old concede lumps of weight all round at Chepstow and the gelding should have no problems seeing out this trip.
Meanwhile, Dessie Hughes goes dual-handed and Magnanimity is worthy of attention at odds of 12/1 with Ladbrokes.com. The 7-year-old makes a return from a serious leg injury he picked up at Cheltenham Festival, although he showed plenty of potential in top staying novice chases last term, not least when winning a Grade Two and finishing a fine third in the RSA Chase.
Hughes' second strong is Roberto Goldback, with Ladbrokes pricing him 25/1 and those odds could shorten if rain materialises.
The field is completed by Willie Mullins' Cooldine (20/1), who has been beaten by 12 lengths by Joncol at Thurles and by 34 lengths by Rubi Light already this season, and Guinness Gold Cup winner Follow The Plan (25/1).
6/4 Quito de La Roque
3/1 Rubi Light
4/1 Joncol
10/1 Noland
10/1 Synchronised
12/1 Magnanimity
20/1 Cooldine
