A big field will go to post this Wednesday at Galway for the feature race of the seven day meeting, The Galway Plate. Dermot Weld, already amongst the winners at the meeting will saddle favourite, Majestic Concorde, who is returning to fences after a highly promising run, when fourth in the Chester Cup in May. The 7 year old is currently a best price of 5/1 with Ladbrokes to give Weld his first winner of the race since the great Ansar in 2005.
majestic Concorde was last seen over fences last October when winning a good quality Chase over 2½ miles at Sligo. He won that race by 7 lengths and looking as good as when he won the Galway Handicap here two years ago.
2010 Galway Plate Odds Comparison
Next best in the betting is the ultra consistent, Gordon Elliott trained, Nedzers Return , a winner of six of his last nine races, including wins over hurdles and fences. This 8 year old has the perfect profile for a Galway plate winner and if he turns up in top form he will be a very difficult horse to beat. In the worst case he should be backed on an each way basis with odds currently at 10/1 with ladbrokes.
UK Champion trainer, Paul Nicholls is sending over Five Dream another consistent sort who should thrive at this course. Nicholls of course won this race two years ago with Oslot, but whether or not Fiver Dream is up to that standard remains to be seen. In fact of the UK runners we prefer the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained, Grand Slam hero, winner last time out of the Summer Plate and who is looking for a four timer. He is a very progressive gelding who is clearly getting plenty of support in the market and punters are advised to get on him earlier rather than later as he is certain to shorten before the off. Five Dream and Grand Slam Hero are both at 12/1 currently.

of the rest, respect has to be given to the Paul Nolan trained Cuan Na Grai who warmed up for this race with an excellent second place in a Grade 3 Hurdle race last week at Tipperary. Before that he won a good quality hurdle event at Limerick in May and a Novice Chase at Punchestown in April, wher he had the fancied Themoonandsixpence 8 lengths behind. Cuan Na Grai can be backed at 14/1 with Ladbrokes.com.
