Since this article was written it has been announced that Time For Rupert is no longer running in the Argento Chase. Anticipation is building for the Cheltenham Festival in March and Cheltenham Festival Trials Day on Saturday offers a great opportunity for a little taster of what is to come. The Argento Chase at the famous racecourse boasts a stellar lineup for Saturday's renewal and Punchestowns heads the betting with Paddy Power bookmakers. It was thought the novice chaser Time For Rupert would challenge the more experienced Punchestowns, Tidal Bay, Little Josh and last year's winner Taranis, but has since had to withdraw because of an infection.
Time For Rupert was ante-post favourite for the race and that shows how highly he is rated in his first chase against more experienced rivals. He has been an exciting novice chaser and will instead go straight to Cheltenham Festival where is favourite for the RSA Chase. He is currently at odds of 5/2 for the RSA as Paul Webber favours that rather than the Gold Cup in March.
Punchestowns went off as favourite for the RSA Chase last year but ended up disappointing, and he has plenty to prove on Saturday. The 8-year-old was a surprise runner up to Pride of Dulcote on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury and Nicky Henderson's horse is currently second favourite for Saturday's £90,000 chase at odds of 5/2 with Paddy Power.
Another strong looking horse for Saturday's 3 mile, 1 and a half furlong race is Tidal Bay who is available at industry best priced odds of 5/1 with PaddyPower.com. Howard Johnson's horse beat Time For Rupert in the Cleeve Hurdle at last year's Cheltenham Festival Trials Day and came runner up in the Betfair Chase in November. The 10-year-old is well worth looking out for this weekend.
Meanwhile, Little Josh is offered at odds of 11/1 by Paddy Power and the Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase winner looks to be in good form. His win at Cheltenham in November came as something of a surprise as he started the race as a 20/1 punt and he produced a solid follow up in finishing fifth in the Vote AP Gold Cup in December. He tends to take up the running early.
The Tother One can be backed at odds of 9/1 after Paul Nicholls' 10-year-old came second to Nacarat in the Charlie Hall Chase in October. Nicholls also boasts last year's 16/1 Argento Chase winner who is offered at industry best priced odds of 12/1 this time, although the 10-year-old did fall in the Victor Chandler Chase on New Year's Day. The dual Grade 1 winner Neptunes Collonges is also industry best priced at 12/1 with Paddy Power, while the 2009 Grand National winner Mon Mome is a 20/1 punt.
Madison du Berlais and The Sawyer make up the rest of a stellar field, as some likely contenders for Cheltenham in March go head-to-head.
