Bookmakers have slashed the odds of the Sir Michael Stoute trained Harbinger for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomph at Longchamp in October, after the 4 year old routed the opposition in the King V and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot last Saturday. The opposition which included two Derby winners, in stablemate, Workforce, winner of the Epsom Derby in June and Irish Derby winner, Cape Blanco, trained by Aidan O’Brien, who finished 12 lengths adrift in second place, were simply put to the sword by the hugely progressive son of Dansili. Some Bookmakers have now cut him in the betting to as short as 6/4 for Europe’s Premier race, but 7/4 is still available from the 'Magic Sign', Ladbrokes although this is unlikely to last.
Harbinger has to be the most improved horse in training, he has now won his last four races, although this is his first Group One success, but he looks better and better as each race is run. Prior to the King George, he won the Group Two Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot and before that he beat Ascot Gold Cup Runner up, Age Of Aquarius in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester, proving that not only does get a mile and half perfectly, he can also go further.
2010 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Odds Comparison
Second in the betting for the ‘Arc’ is O’Brien’s, Coronation Cup winner, Fame And Glory, who is stable in the market at around 5/1. Fame and Glory although beaten in a strange race at the beginning of the season has won his last three and looks to have improved hugely from last year, where, despite winning the Irish Derby had to take a few batterings including finishing behind the magnificent, Sea The Stars on three different occasions.

Workforce ran hugely disappointingly in the King George, he looked ragged and even green, once beaten he dropped out quickly suggesting that there is still plenty of maturing to do for the 3 year old, who won the Epsom Derby so impressively only seven weeks ago. Based solely on his Epsom victory however, then the 12/1 about him for the ‘Arc’ from Ladbrokes.com looks good value, but based on his King George V run then surely he should be ignored.
7/4 Harbinger
5/1 Fame and Glory
12/1 Workforce
12/1 Sarafina
12/1 Planteur
12/1 Byword
16/1 Sariska
16/1 Snow Fairy
33/1 Youmzain
40/1 BAR
