The Group Two Betfair Cup which takes place on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood, looks to be an absolute cracking renewal, with 2009 winner, Finjaan, looking to repeat his win from 2009. The Bookmakers have him as favourite in the antepost betting, with odds of around 11/2, available from William Hill Bookmakers.Trained by Marcus Tregoning, the consensus is that this race in many ways is the perfect one for the four year old, he clearly loves the track and seven furlongs is absolutely perfect for him. There has been so few opportunities for him so far this season which means he will come into the race very fresh and is sure to be there or thereabouts.

Beaten half a length last year by Finjaan, was the Clive Cox trained, Balthazaar's Gift, who will be re=opposing again this time around. The 7 year old has had very few clear cut opportunities to run over his favoured seven furlongs so far this season, but his 7th and 8th place behind Starspangledbanner in the Group One, Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup, both over six furlongs, looked to be a good performances and will have him spot on to reverse the form with Finjaan in this. it is always hard to overlook an Aidan O’Brien horse in any race, but particularly so at Glorious Goodwood. He is represented in this by Air Chief Marshal, a winner of his last three starts including a very good looking performance in the Group Three Minstrel Stakes over 7 furlongs at the Curragh earlier this month. The 3 year old looks to have really settled down to racing these days and is certainly one who will be well backed at 7/1 to win this.

The one we are going to have wager on however is the Sir Michael Stoute trained five year old, Main Aim, who these days is clearly more competitive over 7 furlongs, if his win in the Group Three Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock at the end of May, is anything to go by.
