Cheltenham Gold Cup latest betting: Midnight Chase an interesting outsider

Cheltenham Gold Cup betting is far more open this year than it has been in recent years, mainly due to Kauto Star’s gradual decline. Kauto Star, who won the Gold Cup in 2007 and 2009, is clearly not the force he was and for the first time during his British racing career he is actually closer to a double-figure price than he is to odds on. Another popular former Gold Cup winner, Denman, is another whose steady decline has helped give the 2011 Gold Cup a wide-open look. Midnight Chase has won all three of his starts this season, all of them at Cheltenham, the latest of which came under a heavy weight in handicap in December. In a year when the Gold Cup might not be as difficult to win as has been the case with some recent renewals, Midnight Chase could be an interesting ante-post bet.
