Sizing John to outclass his rivals and land Punchestown Gold Cup success

Sizing John Will Take All The Beating
The decision earlier in the season to up Sizing John in trip has been a masterstroke, as having chased home Douvan several times as a novice over two miles, the Irish raider has blossomed over longer distances, and he showed that he had no stamina issues in the Gold Cup, as he stormed to a two-and-three-quarter length success at last month's Cheltenham Festival.
Now he tackle three miles in the Punchestown Gold Cup, and he has been installed as the red-hot 11/10 favourite with Ladbrokes, and if he can replicate that aforementioned Cheltenham performance then odds-against could be a blinding price for a horse that continues to improve with every run.
He has winning form at Punchestown, and with only four runs on his card this season he is still fairly lightly-raced, and while he will have put in a lot off effort for that Cheltenham win, he bypassed Aintree a fortnight ago, and he should be at his best for Wednesday's test, and he is surely the one to stick with in this six-runner renewal.
Djakadam And Coneygree The Main Dangers
Djakadam put up another bold effort in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but the Willie Mullins-trained raider could only finish fourth, and it's hard to see him turning that form around with Sizing John, and the 7/2 available with Betfair Sportsbook is a little bit skinny about a horse that often finds one too good at the highest level.
He has twice finished second in this race, so he is sure to make another bold bid, but the Closutton inmate may just have to settle for the minor honours here, and it could be the Mark Bradstock-trained Coneygree that could put up a bolder effort against the market leader.
The 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero is 6/1 with Ladbrokes, and is returning from yet another injury having been well beaten by Cue Card in the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park in November, and has not been seen on the track since, but he has shown previously that he can produce the goods on his comeback, and will try to put it up to Sizing John on the front end.
Outlander Best Of The Rest
Outlander was well beaten by Sizing John in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, so has a lot of work to do here, but he was a fine second in the Champion Novice Chase at last year's Punchestown Festival, so will enjoy a return to the venue on Wednesday, and could be interesting at 10/1 with bet365.
Champagne West (16/1) was another outclassed in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and he is still yet to prove he is a real top-class Grade 1 performer, while Flemenstar (66/1) is not the force of old and will struggle here, in a race that can go the way of the jolly and hand Harrington more notable success.
