The Racing Post Chase is run over three miles and is the main feature of a fantastic card at Kempton Park this Saturday which has attracted an excellent field of both experienced and novice chasers who are headed in the weights by the Tom George trained Nacarat, who won this race in 2009 and was runner up to Razor Royale last year.
The ten year old, who is currently second favourite with odds of 6/1 on offer from Paddy Power looked very impressive on his seasonal reappearance last October when winning the Grade Two Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby and has since been seen out twice, finishing fourth in the Grade One, Betfair Chase at Haydock behind Imperial Commander and fourth again behind Long Run in the King George Chase at this course last month.
Nacarat will be running off a 2lb lower mark than he did last year and reports from the stable have confirmed that he has had a minor breathing operation and will come to the race in great form.
Favourite at 11/2 to win the race however is the Paul Nicholls trained Fistral Beach who returned to winning ways when taking a Class Two Handicap at Wincanton last month. That race was his first run of the season and was much needed to restore stable confidence in him after he disappointed in this race last year by unseating rider, Ruby Walsh which he followed up by finishing well behind winner, Prince De Beauchene in the Betfred Daffodil Vase Handicap Chase at Haydock last April. This eight year old has a tendency to jump left and has question marks concerning his stamina, which is why he should be left alone this time around.
The one we like for this race is the Phillip Hobbs trained, Quinz, who comes into the race on a very good mark and on the back of an excellent third place behind the classy Time For Rupert, favourite for the RSA Chase at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival, in a Class Two Novice Chase at Cheltenham last December. Hobbs has an excellent record in this race having saddled three past winners and admits to it being one of his favourite races on the National Hunt Calendar. The seven year old can be backed at an excellent 7/1 with PaddyPower.
For each way purposes it might pay punters to have faith in the Alan King trained Bakbenscher who is currently an 8/1 shot, but who comes into the race on the back of an excellent four length victor of a good quality Graduation Chase at Exeter a fortnight ago. He is on a good mark and has plenty of stable confidence behind him.
1pt Win: Quinz @ 7/1
2 pts Each Way: Bakbenscher@ 8/1
