The National Hunt season is beginning to pick up pace and this weekend's highlight from Aintree's two day meeting is the Totetentofollow Old Roan Chase at 3.25pm on Saturday. There's a small but select field for this competitive looking Grade 2 limited handicap run over two and a half miles. Six runners will go to post including a Cheltenham Festival winner and a two time winner of this race. It's the youngest horse in the race Tartak though who looks like going off favourite for trainer Tom George, at odds of 3/1 with bookmaker William Hill.

Paddy Brennan will ride Tartak on Saturday who will be seen on the racecourse for the first time this season (as with all of Saturday's field) on a useful mark with Alberta's Run, the horse who beat him into his five length defeat in the Ryanair Chase last March. Trainer George has taken steps to make his stable star much sharper this Autumn and getting plenty in hand of Alberta's Run and Poquelin, the horse that finished second in the Ryanair he looks to have a good chance.
Two time winner Monet's Garden has also been well supported in the betting. Nicky Richards grey loves Aintree, beating Kauto Star nonetheless in this race three years ago, but you wonder whether age is beginning to catch up with him. Beaten four and a half lengths into third place behind Alberta's Run in the Melling Chase at the Grand National meeting last Spring. Monet's Garden can be backed at odds of 10/3 with Williamhill.
Alberta's Run is something of an enigma in horse racing terms. The Jonjo O'Neill enjoyed his best season last year, rather belatedly following his impressive win in the 2008 RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. The Trevor Hemmings owned nine year old when eight races without a win following that victory but got last season off to a winning start landing the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot last November. Further wins in the Ryanair Chase and the Melling Chase earlier year at big prices showed that he's not yet done with this racing lark just yet. Alberta's Run is an 3/1 chance with Hills.
Paul Nicholls has a habit of winning the feature races on a Saturday afternoon and he'll be saddling last season's Boylesports.com Gold Cup winner Poquelin in the race. The seven year old was the beaten favourite in the Ryanair Chase at the Festival and unseated rider Ruby Walsh in the Melling Chase when well beaten. However, a spirited second place in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last November on ground that he hated coupled with the Boylesports win show that this horse goes well fresh. Ruby Walsh misses the race through injury but he's stated in the press that this would be his best chance of a win this weekend. William Hill rate Poquelin as a 3/1 chance in the odds.
I'msingingtheblues and Watch My Back make up the field in this very competitive race where it wouldn't be a surprise if any where to win. David Pipe now trains I'msingingtheblues who was a promising novice chaser for paul Nicholls whilst Watch My Back will be Ferdy Murphy's runner in Saturday's race.
2/1 Tartak
3/1 Poquelin
7/2 Monets Garden
9/2 Albertas Run
11/1 I'msingingtheblues
25/1 Watch My Back
