Bertimont The Each Way Play In Open Scottish Champion Hurdle Betting
Saturday 22nd April 2017, 2.45pm - Scottish Champion Hurdle (Ayr)
The National Hunt season is drawing to a close now but not before a massive weekend north of the border at Ayr. The Saturday card is of course highlighted by the Scottish Grand National but there is an excellent support card, including the Scottish Champion Hurdle, which always tends to produce a good winner.
- Simon Munir and Isaac Suede own three horses in the field - L'Ami Serge, Sceau Royal and Peace And Co
- Dan Skelton trained the winner of this race in 2016 - Chi'tibello

This handicap contest is a tough one for punters to work out from a value point of view, but there is no doubt that Winter Escape will go off with plenty of money on his shoulders. The Alan King trained horse will be having just his 6th career start and off of a mark of 141, and he is expected to have more to come.
He travelled well for a long way when fancied for the County Hurdle and with just 1lb extra on his back, and in a weaker contest, he is hard to ignore here at 5/1 with Betfair.
L'Ami Serge (6/1) is the top weight for Nicky Henderson and he is sure to run well for connections. He has been placed either 2nd or 3rd in each of his lats eight starts so we know how consistent he is but that record also suggest the handicapper has hold of him when it comes to winning, so punters might want to take a look at him from an each-way perspective, at most.
Sceau Royal (7/1) will be running in the same colours as L'Ami Serge and he too is another class animal, and a more than handy second string for Alan King. His 6th place in the Champion Hurdle ensures he shares top weight with L'Ami Serge, and a repeat of that run will see him go very close on Saturday.
We must also mention Peace And Co who is the third horse in the field owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Suede as the former Triumph Hurdle winner has his first run for over a year.
Once rated as high as 159, he is chucked in here off 144 if he can produce his best form but that is a big if considering the way he performed last term. We could look back at his price of 8/1 with Paddy Power as a massive one, but for now, he is best watched.
Tommy Silver (12/1) won the Sussex Champion Hurdle well last time out for Paul Nicholls but will need much more with 5lbs more on his back and in deeper company, whilst Chesterfield (9/1) has been going the right way of late and does have Daniel Sansom talking 7lbs off which is interesting.
Bertimont Might Be Ready to Return To Form
Dan Skelton trained the winner of this race last year with Chi'Tibello, and he will be hoping that Bertimont can run a big race this time. He was 7th in this race two years ago off of a mark of 151, and having lost his way since, he has a full 15lbs less to carry this time. He has shown glimpses of form this term, and Paddy Brennan is an interesting jockey booking, which means each way punters should take the 20/1 with Paddy Power.
