Peter Marsh Chase Odds: Take The Breeze May Take The Beating

The in form stable of Keith Reveley are very optimistic regarding the chances of their Bold Ransom winning this Saturdays very open looking Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase over 3 miles at Haydock Park. The Bookmakers have also been quick to see the ‘Reveley optimism’ and most have clipped his odds to around the 5/1 mark, but punters can still back him with better odds of 6/1 available from Bet365 .

Bold Ransom was only seen three weeks ago winning against six much weaker rivals in the valuable Last Fling Chase Handicap in heavy ground over 3m4f also at Haydock and with conditions on Saturday expected to be in his favour he has to be a very worthy consideration. However the Peter Marsh Chase is a Limited Handicap where the bottom weight is only 10-04, which makes his mark of 127 look a little unfair when compared to the top weight Crescent Island.

The favourite to win however with odds of 5/1 is the Henry Daly trained Pearlysteps who was going really well before coming down at the last in the Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase over course and distance a month or so ago. That race too was on heavy ground which means conditions will suit him again and he looks to be on a much better mark than Bold Ransom. Provided he jumps well we certainly would not deter anyone from backing him.

2009 Grand National winner Mon Mome will be one of the attractions in Saturday’s race, but whilst he has the ability to beat these rivals it is pointed out that he has never won a conventional chase off a mark in the 140’s before. That said he ran really well three weeks ago when carrying top weight to claim second place behind Mostly Bob in the Raceodds Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. Venetia Williams his trainer is keen that he is given another crack at the ‘National’ in April so this run could be seen as a valuable part of his preparation for Aintree. Mon Mome can be backed with odds of 7/1 also with bet365.

Also being heavily backed is Take The Breeze from the Paul Nicholls stable. He has shown very little form lately but was due to run in this race last year where he would have carried top weight but was ultimately withdrawn. It now appears that he is back for to make amends but this year he is on a much better mark and will only carry 11-05. With odds of 6/1 he could be the big gamble of the race.

According To Pete looks to have a decent chance and has odds of 8/1. Last seen winning the Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase over 3m1f at Wetherby on soft ground this Malcolm Jefferson Grand National entry would have to be in with a reasonable chance of a least a place. He is not terribly well handicapped but conditions and trip will suit and he is one of the most consistent jumpers around.

Entries for these big races from the Pipe stable should always be respected and this week they are sending up Consigliere, an easy handicap winner at Wincanton on soft ground a fortnight ago. Bookmakers have reported plenty of antepost betting support for the 9 year old and Bet 365.com have clipped his odds into 7/1, but whilst showing respect is important, so is showing a little caution. This is why we point out that he has never ran, let alone won, over three miles in the past.

Whilst all 11 runners have claims to win this race the other one we feel worth profiling is The Sawyer from the stable of Bob Buckler. Last seen running behind Mostly Bob and Mon Mome in the Raceodds Handicapp Chase, this old campaigner still has a touch of class and always puts in an honest endeavour. He may just be a worthwhile each way option although we do not see him as the winner.
