Eleven runners will go to post for the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup, and will be headed in the betting by the almost incomparable, Kauto Star, winner of this most prestigious race in both 2007 and 2009. Kauto will go off with very short odds indeed to win the crown for the third time, but few would begrudge him that as he is without doubt the stuff of legends. In fact Kauto Star is as short as 4/6 with most leading Bookmakers including Ladbrokes who are offering a FREE Bet on him for the race.
There are few words left to say about this wonder horse, other than is very difficult to see him get beaten in this if he reproduces his King George Chase form from Christmas, where he ran spectacularly well to win the race by a huge distance.
2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup Odds Comparison
It was hoped that this race was going to be a big showdown between Kauto Star and stablemate, Denman, who beat Kauto into second place to win the Gold Cup in 2008. However, Denman looked decidedly uncomfortable last time when falling in the Aon Chase and he will now need a huge comeback from that if he is to claim the honours here. Since his fall, he has slowly but surely drifted in the market and is now out to 4/1 with Ladbrokes
Cooldine, trained by Willie Mullins is the major challenger from Ireland and comes to Cheltenham in fine form. He won the RSA Chase last year at the Festival and although he has not won since, there were encouraging signs in his last run when second to Joncol in the Irish Hennessy Gold Cup. Cooldine is an 8/1 best price.

Another potential danger to Kauto Star is the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Imperial Commander, who ran Kauto to a short head in the Betfair Chase back in November. Imperial Commander also won the 2009 Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham, proving that he loves the course and on his day he can test the best. He is also an 8/1 shot for the race with Ladbrokes
Of the rest it could be that current Aintree Grand National favourite, Tricky Trickster, also from the Nicholls stable, may have what it takes to run a big race. He certainly looked very impressive when taking advantage of Denman’s fall in the Aon Chase last month when coming with a storming finish under Ruby Walsh to claim the race. We certainly think he is worth an each way punt in this, particularly with odds of 14/1.
