Ascot looks set to witness an intriguing renewal of the Coral Hurdle (registered as the Ascot Hurdle Race) on Saturday. Champion Hurdle third Oscar Whisky is currently an evens favourite for the 2 mile, 3 furlong and 110 yard contest, with Overturn likely to provide a stiff challenge according to William Hill.
Nicky Henderson has won two of the last three renewals of this Grade Two race and he looks to have a great chance of making it three from four with Oscar Whisky this weekend. The 6-year-old got better and better last season as he followed up his third place at Cheltenham with victory by a neck from Thousand Stars in the Aintree Hurdle.
The Welsh Champion Hurdle winner's exceptional turn of foot ensures he is the classiest gelding in the field on Saturday, with a crack at the World Hurdle likely to be the long term aim. He has only been beaten twice in nine outings, although Donald McCain Jr's Overturn will hope to inflict a third.
Overturn will have few better opportunities to beat Oscar Whisky as he gets 8lbs from the ante-post favourite. The 7-year-old could offer decent value at odds of 9/4 with Hills and the bold front-runner should find the track and step up in trip very much to his liking. Grand National winning jockey Jason Maguire will take the ride aboard the Chester Cup winner, who could be closer to race fitness than many of his rivals after winning the Summer Champion Hurdle at Perth in August.
Paul Nicholls' King Of The Night steps up from handicap company and the impressive 7-year-old is priced 4/1. The gelding secured an excellent victory over First Fandango in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at Kempton last month and boasts fine handicap form.
Elsewhere, Nick Williams' For Non Stop makes the move to hurdles after struggling over fences. The 20/1 chance has some patchy recent form as he fell on his reappearance when evens favourite at Cheltenham last month and that followed a fall in the Coral Cup.
David Pipe's Lough Derg is also available at 20/1 with Hills and the Ascot specialist will be looking to improve on a fifth place finish in this race in 2009 and a seventh place last year.
Meanwhile, Alan King's Katchit makes a first appearance since October 2010 and we fancy the 8-year-old could offer some decent each way value at odds of 25/1 with WilliamHill.com, particularly if he can rediscover the form that saw him win the 2008 Champion Hurdle.
50/1 punt Orsippus will attempt to upset the odds again as he did when winning a Grade One at Aintree from odds of 40/1 in April 2010, with Neil King's 66/1 outsider Afsoun completing the field.
