Difficult Task in Finding the Winner in Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle Betting

Once again it is a Paul Nicholls horse that heads the market for a Festival race. This time it is Alfie Sherrin who is a warm order favourite for the Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle betting with odds of 7/2, offered by PaddyPower. This exciting seven year old has already had three wins over hurdles and whilst he may be carrying a bit more weight than is ideal, Nicholls is sweet on his chances. He looked particularly useful when landing the odds in the Totescoop6 Handicap at Newbury last month.

Leading the way against Alfie Sherrin is the Nicky Henderson trained, Ainama, who ran with some credit in the 2009 Supreme Novices Hurdle when 8th behind Go Native. This year he has not distinguished himself too readily, but he is highly regarded at Seven Barrrows and has been kept fresh for the race, in which he has odds of 7/1 with paddy power.

With odds of around the 11/1 mark, we like the look of the Tom Taafe entry, Smoking Aces, who is one of three JP McManus owned horses in the race. He has only been out of the frame once in ten career runs and has been targeted specifically at this race. He had some useful looking hurdlers behind him last time when winning at Punchestown and we think he has a similar profile to past winners in what is traditionally a difficult race for punters.

Of the others to consider is the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Kayf Aramis, who is arguably the class horse in the field. Not ideally weighted to win this, Kayf Aramis has spent much of his season running with considerable credit in graded company and this race would represent a step down in class. At 20/1 with PaddyPower he could be the one for each way punters to get on.
