Betting Confirms that Jewson Handicap Chase is a Wide Open Affair

The Paul Nicholls trained, French bred, Rivaliste is likely to go off as the favourite for the Jewson in what looks to be a very open handicap. Nicholls saddled the winner of this last season with Chapoturgeon who became the first five year old to win the race that has been in existence since only 2005. Being the same age and trained also by Nicholls there is a definite ‘Deja Vu’ feel about this race, which is something the punters seem to have grasped and who have been supporting Rivaliste heavily in the antepost market. He is as short as 11/2 with some Bookmakers but VC Bet still have him at 6/1.

A short-nose second last time in a good quality Novice Chase at Sandown in early December, the highly regarded horse has been purposely kept fresh for the Festival and is expected to run a big race.

2010 Jewson Handicap Chase.

The Hollinwell, an 17/2 chance, trained by Ferdy Murphy, looks on a competitive mark after winning a strongly run handicap at Warwick in January - Murphy saddled the winner of this race in 2007 with L’Antartique and at 17/2 with Victor Chandler, he would be our choice for each way backers. Murphy of course has already had one winner at the Festival this year, confirming that his horses have come right again at this time of the year.

Of the others, the Jonjo O’Neill trained, Sunnyhillboy looks well treated at the weights and will have 3lb less to carry than the favourite. He looked a very useful sort when winning the Attwood Memorial Trophy last month at Ludlow. The Noel Meade trained Jered, who has a rating over the smaller obstacles of 154, and who ran with credit in the 2009 Champion Hurdle, cannot be discounted if assessing the race on class. He is a 14/1 shot to win.
