With the British national hunt season almost upon us, interest in the odds for the big races, trainers championship and specials markets will capture interest. Bet 365 have already opened several markets for the coming season and Nicky Henderson's Long Run features heavily in two of the season's features - the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the King George VI Chase.
The French import produced a stunning run to win one of the greatest renewals of the Gold Cup in living memory last year and Henderson will be hoping his gelding can continue to fulfil his vast ability.
B365 have gone 7/2 that Long Run wins both the King George VI and the Gold Cup during the coming season and the 6-year-old can be found at short prices for each of those races.
Long Run is an evens favourite to win a second successive King George VI after he ran away with it last year. He showed a stunning turn of pace and produced a classy run to give a hint at what he was capable of at Cheltenham in March. Master Minded (5/1) will hope to provide a stiff challenge this year, as will Philip Hobbs' Arkle winner Captain Chris, who is also well backed at 8/1.
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is an obvious target for defending champion Long Run as well, with B365 pricing Henderson's impressive gelding at odds of 9/4 for the season's big race. He produced a sensational run to beat Denman by seven lengths last year and it will be an interesting side note to the season to see whether Paul Nicholls' ageing pair of Denman and Kauto Star can relive former glories - Bet 365 price 2008 champion Denman 16/1 for the Gold Cup, while two-time winner Kauto Star is 25/1.
Before those big races kick into gear, there is the small matter of the Paddy Power Gold Cup to come in November. Long Run flattered to deceive in the race last year as he finished third to Little Josh after being installed as the 2/1 ante-post favourite. It is Paul Nicholls' Topham winner Mon Parrain who heads the odds at 5/1 a month before the race gets underway at Cheltenham this year, with Philip Hobbs' Jewson Novices runner-up Wishfull Thinking available at 10/1.
If all goes right for Philip Hobbs this year, he could be looking at a very successful national hunt season as he boasts a number of leading contenders. Hobbs looks to have a long way to go to challenge for the National Hunt Trainers Championship this season though as he is priced 25/1 by Bet365.com for the trainers' title.
Unsurprisingly, Paul Nicholls, winner of the last six titles, is the 8/13 odds on favourite to make it seven in a row, with Nicky Henderson seemingly his nearest contender at 6/4. However, Henderson hasn't won the title since 1987.
Finally, with the jockeys' whip row a constant source of news and controversy of late, it could be worth noting that SportingBet are offering odds of 6/4 for a jockey to be docked money under the whip rules at any of Cheltenham Festival's main races in 2012.
