Favourites fancied at Ascot on the rest of Fridays card

Friday 17th June - 2:30 Royal Ascot - Albany Stakes (6f, Fillies G3)

A fantastic renewal of the Albany Stakes with the Frankel filly Queen Kindly representing the home team, Cuff over from Ireland representing Ballydoyle and Create A Dream, the Wesley-Ward trained US raider.

First season sire, Frankel, has enjoyed a tremendous strike rate with his progeny so far so it will be intriguing to see how Queen Kindly performs here after she impressed in a 5 length win at Catterick. That was a Class 5 on good-to-firm ground though so this represents a different test altogether.

Unlike the other US challengers this week, Create A Dream brings some UK form to the table having won a 5 furlong Class 2 at Ascot in April. Lady Aurelia has already demonstrated the blistering speed possible from these US horses so, if this filly is anywhere near as good, she’ll certainly take some pegging back.

But it’s Cuff who brings the best form to the table having won both starts since being stepped up to 6 furlongs. She won a Listed race at Naas last time out in Good to Yielding ground and looks the most solid option.

The Aiden O’Brien-trained filly is 11/4 with Betfair Sportsbook who are paying 4 places (1/5 odds) on each-way bets. It’s difficult to see her finishing worse than fourth so she rates the most solid betting proposition in the race.

Friday 17th June - 5:00 Royal Ascot - Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (1m 4f, Handicap)

Godolphin have enjoyed a tremendous week at Royal Ascot and that run can continue with Elite Army fancied to win the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes.

The 5-year-old will need to carry top weight in soft ground to triumph but this lightly raced gelding has the class to defy a mark of 105.

A four time winner from just six lifetime runs, he has entered the Ascot winners enclosure both times he’s visited the course, the latest of those being in the Listed Buckhounds Stakes last month when he held on gamely to beat Scotland after taking a keen hold early on.

That was his first race for nearly a year so, with the freshness knocked out of him, he can hopefully settle better here. He’s been found in the market but still rates a decent each-way bet at 6/1 with Paddy Power.

Friday 17th June - 5:35 Royal Ascot - Queen’s Vase (2m, Listed)

Ebediyin represents the Derby winning connections of Dermot Weld, Pat Smullen and the Aga Khan and he can make it a cracking day for favourite backers by landing the Queen’s Vase - the last race on the card.

She’s from a smart family, goes in the ground, and with the set up in trip expected to suit, she rates a good bet for a trainer in flying form.

Back her at 9/2 with Bet365 who are 1/4 the odds on each-way bets.
