The Dermot Weld trained, Rite Of Passage has been the long time favourite for this race, known last year as the Ballymore Properties Hurdle. Unbeaten over hurdles, this 6 year old oozes class and looked hugely impressive when winning at Punchestown last month when winning without coming off the bridle. Since then he has been heavily backed to win for his celebrated trainer and is a 7/2 with paddypower.
Whilst Rite Of Passage looks the one to beat, the Willie Mullins trained Quel Esprit should not be ruled out, particularly now that Ruby Walsh has been confirmed for the ride. The Mullins/Walsh combination has won this race for last two seasons and Quel Esprit is more than capable of doing the same having won four of his six starts over hurdles. The six year old has been backed into 7/2 joint favouritism from 13/2 the other day

One we like the look of is the Nick Williams trained Reve De Sivola, who is already a Grade 1 winner, and who will benefit by the 2½ mile trip. Although on heavy ground, this 5 year old comfortably held Finian’s Rainbow in the Grade 1 Challow Novices Hurdle at Newbury over the Christmas period and at 11/1 with Paddy Power, he looks like an outstanding each way option.

Finian’s Rainbow in fact also goes in this and is said by his trainer, Nicky Henderson to be in great form and should improve again after landing the odds last time at Ascot on ground described as good to soft.
