As the betting amply demonstrates, the National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup Chase is most definitely one of the races that punters least enjoy, but which is also one of the most exciting to watch. Likely to go off favourite, is the Martin Keighley trained, Any Currency, who is currently around the 7/1 mark with Bet365. He warmed up for Cheltenham with a solid fifth place in the Allanbrook Challenge Cup last month, over 3 miles at Sandown and is expected to come on for the run. He will be ridden by leading Irish amateur, Derek O’Connor.

Next best in the betting is the Paul Nicholls trained, Massasoit, who comes into the race on the back of a good run at Sandown last month where he was third behind the old timer, Monkerhostin in the Totesport Masters Handicap Chase. Behind him that day was Razor Royale, who has since won the very prestigious Racing Post Chase at Kempton. We think that represents good form for Massasoit and believe him to be a more than reasonable each way option at 7/1.

There has also been a market move for the Jonjo O’Neill trained Synchronised, who has been in the winners enclosure twice already this season and warmed up for Cheltenham with a creditable third place behind Over Sixty in a Novice Chase at Fontwell in January. Synchronised is also around the 7/1 mark in the betting.
This is the 14oth running of the 4 mile race and it is always a competitive and open affair where selecting the winner is always very difficult. One who we think might run well is the Howard Johnson trained, Abbeybraney, who has been very lightly raced over the last couple of years due to nagging injury problems. Before then he was very highly thought of and was once favourite to win the 2008 Welsh National. He ran very well in a small field last time out at Hexham when winning a novice chase, but on his day he has mixed it with good results with some of the best chasers around. If fit on the day, he could be one that turns a few heads and is very backable in the betting with odds of 10/1 with Bet365 we think he is worth following.
