Winner of his last six races, this is impeccable 7 year old is a real ‘tough nut’ to crack as he proved in the 2009 renewal when he held off a mighty challenge from the favourite, Punchestowns. However with odds this year of around the 8/13 mark from Bet365 he offers little value for the day to day punter, who may find it more secure to go for a solid each way candidate.
Bookmakers in fact have reported considerable each way interest in one or two in this race, including the Howard Johnson trained, Tidal Bay, who won the 2008 Arkle Grade 1 Novices Chase, but has found it better to return to hurdling. This horse is a class act in his own right, who will love the ground and should have no problems with the trip. He was an excellent winner over course and distance in January in the Grade 2, Cleeve Hurdle, where he took the notable scalp of 2008 Champion Hurdler, Katchit who re-opposes in this. Tidal Bay is currently a best price of 7/1 with Bet365 which we think is outstanding each way value.

Trainer, Alan King has two quality runners in the race in Karabak and Katchit, but in the case of the former he is certainly held by Big Bucks on their meeting in the Long Walk Hurdle at Newbury back in November, where he finished over 3 lengths adrift in second on heavy ground. Katchit too, as discussed is held by Tidal Bay, however, King knows how to get his horses spot on for the Festival and both of his candidates are set for big improvements in this. Karabak is currently a 15/2 chance, while Katchit is 18/1.
