International Stakes Odds: Dick Turpin Can Justify Supplemented entry

Despite no Harbinger the Group One International Stakes is one of the most eagerly awaited races of the season particularly with the supplemented inclusion of the Richard Hannon trained, Dick Turpin included. Favourite ahead of the race with odds of 15/8 from Totesport, is the Aidan O‘Brien trained, Rip Van Winkle, beaten last time out by Canford Cliffs, stablemate of Dick Turpin, in the Group One, Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. Rip Van Winkle is almost certain to improve from that run, but he will need to as Dick Turpin has twice finished in front of Canford Cliffs this season and is likely to get this 10 furlongs comfortably. Dick Turpin can be backed at 9/2.

Also highly fancied is the Andre Fabre trained, Byword, winner of the Group One, Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and a winner of three of his four starts so far this season. The four year old had Twice Over ½ length adrift of him at Royal Ascot, who opposes again here. Since Royal Ascot, Twice Over, who is trained by Henry Cecil has won the Group One , Eclipse Stakes and will need the reproduce that form at the very minimum if he is to reverse placings with Byword in this. As the betting stands currently, Byword can be backed at 5/2 and Twice Over at 10/3, both with Totesport.

For our money it looks a straight race between the top four, with not a lot to choose between them. The fact that Richard Hannon has had Dick Turpin supplemented for the race suggests very strongly that his in form stable has high hopes for him and on that basis alone we would be tempted to back him. We would also back Byword for the forecast.
