Great Voltigeur Stakes Odds: Rewilding Has Measure of Midas Touch at York

Ballydoyle and Godolphin will go head to head in the Group 2, Great Voltigeur Stakes at York this Tuesday when Midas Touch takes on Rewilding. The Bookmakers cannot split the pair in the antepost market, with Bet365 Bookmakers quoting them both at 9/4 to win the race.

The two horses last met in the Epsom Derby in June when Rewilding finished well clear of Midas Touch when third behind Workforce, he showed that day that he stayed very well and is more than capable of providing Godolphin with their fourth winner of this race.

Following Epsom, Midas Touch went on to be second to stablemate, Cape Blanco in the Irish Derby and is said to have been working really well at home. Aidan O’Brien and his Ballydoyle team do not have the most illustrious of records in this race, they last won it in 2003 with Powerscourt, so whether Midas Touch can follow that up is open to some doubt as he certainly has something to find with Rewilding.

One horse who has captured the imagination is the William Haggas trained, Harris Tweed, who is also down to run in the Ebor Handicap, although it is quite clear that he will not get into the race. Harris Tweed has shown some sparkling form this season, with two wins and two second places. He will however be stepping up in class in this race and will have to have improved considerably if he is to get into the winners enclosure here. However at 11/1 with Bet365 he is certainly one for the each Way backers.

The race of course is often used as a Trial for the upcoming ST Leger Stakes, which takes place at Doncaster in September. Harris Tweed and both Rewilding and Midas Touch has entries for the final Classic of the year, which adds considerably more importance to the outcome of this race.
