Line Of Reason tipped to land Scottish Sprint Cup glory at Musselburgh
Saturday 16th June - 3:10pm Musselburgh - Scottish Sprint Cup
Caspian Prince retained his Investec Dash crown at Epsom Downs on Derby day a couple of weeks ago, and the in-form speedster will aim to land another valuable sprinting prize on Saturday when he heads north of the border for the Scottish Sprint Cup at Musselburgh, but as is always the case with these top notch sprint handicaps there will be an ultra-competitive lining up in the 5f 1y showpiece.
- Caspian Prince won the Dash at Epsom two weeks ago
- The last five winners have been aged five or over
- A host of runners featured in the Dash at Epsom

Prince Heads The Weights, But Firenze Is Favourite
Prior to that Dash victory at Epsom, Caspian Prince's last success came at Musselburgh, and the eight-year-old will return to that venue on Saturday, but he will have the burden of a 6lb penalty for his Epsom win, and so he will need to improve on that run, and is as big as 12/1 with Betfred for victory here.
He just held off Dark Shot at Epsom, and was certainly needing the line at the end, but he has shown that on his day he is a top notch sprint handicapper, but that 6lb rise could just hinder his chances to land back-to-back wins, and off top weight will struggle to continue his winning run.
Duke Of Firenze was just behind Caspian Prince in the Dash, and had been victorious at York the run before, and the David Griffiths-trained runner is certainly one to follow when in form, but he has gone up 4lb in the handicap in recent times, and while he is sure to be doing his best work late on, and has to be a cracking each-way play, at 13/2 with Sky Bet he is a little skinny as a win bet.
Line Of Reason The Selection
Paul Midgley's Line Of Reason may have tasted 18 defeats on the bounce, but he has dropped to an attractive mark of 97 (he won last time off 106) and while he was comfortably beaten in the Dash last time out he is too big to ignore at 16/1 with bet365 bookmakers for this contest, and is a cracking each-way bet.
He was beaten by Desert Law (10/1) on his last visit to Musselburgh, where he was third in a Conditions Stakes, but he is better than that, and having finished in the top four on six of his last nine outings then at the 16/1 on offer he has to be classed as a leading contender for this prize.
Best Of The Rest
Tim Easterby's Orion's Bow has rocketed up the handicap in recent seasons, but he has found life tough in the 100s in handicap company, and off 104 he looks to have his work cut out here, and at 9/1 with BetVictor is too skinny, while Kimberella (10/1) failed to make a mark in the Dash at Epsom, and is another to ignore.
Those at bigger prices that could run well include former Group winner Stepper Point, who was a winner at Chelmsford last time out, and is sure to be on the front end throughout, and at 14/1 with Betfred is worth a mention, while the likes of Robot Boy and Confessional, both 16/1, can produce the goods on their day, but can often find one too good at this level.
