Friday's racing at Royal Ascot opens with the Albany Stakes for fillies and there looks to be some high class juveniles competing in the Group Three race. Jim Bolger's Teolane and Wesley Ward's Judy The Beauty head the odds for the six furlong contest, with Teolane just edging favouritism at 2/1 with Boylesports.
The Irish speedster Teolane is seen as a potential Epsom Oaks filly for the future after notching two wins from three starts. The daughter of Teofilo won the six furlong Coolmore Stud Fillies Sprint Stakes at Naas last week, although Bolger has admitted he would prefer to race her over longer trips in the future after her success over seven furlongs at Leopardstown in May.
Bolger is a two time winner of the Albany at Royal Ascot, with Duty Paid in 2002 and Cuis Ghaire in 2008, and Teolane could well make it three and enhance her reputation on Friday afternoon.
The Irish 2-year-old faces tough opposition from American raider Judy The Beauty though and trainer Ward has claimed she is the best of his army of juveniles at Ascot. The daughter of Breeders Cup Classic winner, Ghostzapper, was a winner in quick time at Keeneland and has since been moved to Chantilly in France to prepare for Ascot.
She certainly didn't disappoint as she made all over five furlongs at Chantilly to win by a neck from Ruby's Day, who has since gone on to beat the previously unbeaten colt Family One. The 2-year-old looks to be a genuine contender at 4/1 this week, although Teolane just holds the edge for us.
Meanwhile, Kevin Ryan's Inetrobil faces a big step up in class this week after the 5/1 shot beat a mediocre field in a maiden stakes at Redcar, albeit in fine six length style.
A potential challenger to the two at the head of the odds could well come from the well thought of Lily's Angel. Richard Fahey's speedy filly has had four outings already and is available at odds of 11/1 with Boylesports.com. The daughter of Dark Angel won the Lily Agnes when a well backed 7/4 favourite as she quickened impressively when asked by Paul Hanagan, who has said that Lily's Angel is his best chance of an Ascot winner.
She did lose her three race unbeaten record in the Hilary Needles at Beverley last time out, but we fancy she should improve on that and the step up to six furlongs shouldn't be a problem.
Elsewhere, Barry Hills Sajwah will attract plenty of interest as she is the daughter of the Australian, multiple Group race winning Exceed And Excel. She made a winning impression over five furlongs on her debut at Warwick, where she showed an impressive turn of foot, and is priced 15/2 this week.
14/1 punt Sweet Chilli was also a winner over five furlongs recently as she won a maiden on her second start at Pontefract, although she has plenty to find after finishing fourth at York last time out.
Another who looks open to improvement is Switcher(12/1) after Tom Dascombe's filly produced a strong staying performance to win by three and a half lengths from Dare To Dream at Haydock last month.
