Jewson Novices Chase Odds: Wishfull Thinking slight favourite in the betting for Thursday's opener

Philip Hobbs' Wishfull Thinking is marginal favourite in the odds for Thursday's Jewson Novices Chase. The opening race of the day has a competitive field of 11 taking on the 2 mile and four furlong trip, with Boylesports pricing the favourite at industry best odds of 3/1, while Noble Prince and Robinson Collonges are also well backed.

Hobbs saw his decision to enter Captain Chris in the Arkle Trophy instead of the Jewson pay off handsomely on Tuesday and will be hoping for further success after contemplating entering Wishfull Thinking in the RSA Chase before settling with the Jewson. His 8-year-old has two wins from three over fences and gained plenty of attention with his eye-catching Murphy Group Chase win on Cheltenham Trials Day in January where he beat plenty of experienced handicappers, including Calgary Bay, while giving up 5lbs. Before that he came a very respectable second to Reve De Sivola at Cheltenham in December and will be looking to carry his form over to Cheltenham Festival this week.

He looks to face a stern challenge from Paul Nicholls' Noble Prince with Boyles pricing him just one point behind at odds of 4/1. The 7-year-old is stepping up in trip for the first time over fences but will be in the safe hands of Tony McCoy on Thursday. He came fifth in the County Hurdle last year and has done well over fences with one win at Punchestown and two seconds - both times finishing behind Realt Dubh, who was third in the Arkle on Tuesday.

Nicholls enters a strong double hand in the Jewson as he also boasts the exciting 5/1 shot Robinson Collonges. The 6-year-old has long been regarded as a chaser for the future and despite some extreme performances so far he will find himself paired with Tuesday's Festival hero, Ruby Walsh. He was a superb winner on his chase debut at Bangor in October before falling three out when seemingly cruising to victory over Wishfull Thinking at Wincanton in November. Nicholls quickly got him back on track with a long odds on win at Hereford and despite a below par ninth in the Vote AP Gold Cup he remains an exciting prospect for Thursday's race.

Henry De Bromhead will be looking to continue his own excellent start to the Festival after winning with Sizing Australia on Tuesday as he enters Loosen My Load, who Boylesports.com price at odds of 15/2. The 7-year-old ran well in the Bord Na Mona Novice Chase on heavy ground and should thrive on the better ground this week as he looks to continue a decent record of three wins and a place from five over fences, and he could well be a decent each way punt after finishing behind the highly rated Ghizao and Realt Dubh in his last two.

Nicky Henderson enters Mr Gardner after a place finish in the Scilly Isles Novices Chase in February and the 8-year-old is industry best priced odds of 13/2 with Boyles, while David Pipe's Mr Thriller has been well backed at 12/1 despite a fall and a ninth place in his last two at Cheltenham. The Irish pair of Mr Cracker and Blazing Tempo are priced at odds of 14/1, with Radium, Cootehill and Bouggler completing the field.
