The Dermot Weld trained, Universal Truth looks certain to go off favourite for the 2010 Cesarewitch following a very favourable rail draw in stall 32. The five year old has been well backed all week with his odds now as short as 13/2 with some Bookmakers, however, the smarter punters will be quick to take the best odds of 8/1, which is still available from Ladbrokes.
Whilst it’s not always draw dependent, the higher drawn numbers, are usually where to find the winners of this great race, particularly when it has attracted a large field, which is certainly the case this year with a maximum of 32 going to post. Nine of the last ten winners for instance have been drawn in stall 17 or higher and seven from the last nine have started from 23 or higher.
Weld also runs Majestic Concorde in the race who will be partnered by Pat Smullen, but drawn in stall 9 will not do him any favours, which is why he has drifted a little in the market and is currently out at 12/1 in the betting, also with Ladbrokes.com.
Earlier this week, Bookmakers were reporting a gamble on the Ed Dunlop trained, Red Cadeaux, runner up in the Cesarewitch Trial over course and distance last month. The 4 year old, who will have Johnny Murtagh in the saddle, looked a sound prospect up until the draw was made which has him in stall 5 and he must now rely on the skill of Murtagh to negotiate the course and the field if he is to have any chance. He is currently a best price of 10/1 to win the race, which is the same price on the one time antepost favourite, Admiral Barry, but he too is drawn low, in stall 7 and will need the race to pan out for him.

National Hunt trainer, Nicky Henderson, who trained the winner of the race a couple of years ago, is trying to do so again this year with the 8 year old Sentry Duty. He has had two runs on the flat so far this season and ran with credit in both the Summer Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and before that in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot. He has been laid out for this race and with a benign draw in stall 26, he has a genuine chance and should not be overlooked; he is a best price of 12/1 with the Magic Sign.
Two others who come to mind for this race are both well drawn and are both being backed antepost. Firstly there is My Arch, drawn in stall 26, who is a very consistent sort who has trainer, Ollie Pears waxing lyrical about his chances. He has been backed into 10/1 from 12/1 and is a course winner, having won the Racing UK SKY Handicap in August. Secondly the Brian Meehan trained, Aaim To Prosper, drawn in stall 30 looks to have genuine each way potential with odds of 25/1. He has ran consistently well all season without winning and finished seventh in the race last year after running prominently. His jockey, Louis Beuzelin will lighten his load by taking his 3lb claim off his back, which could just make the difference between gaining a place or not. They can both be backed at those prices with ladbrokes.com
