It looks set to be an exciting renewal of the Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Sunday as three fillies from the Epsom equivalent renew rivalries. Dancing Rain was victorious at Epsom last month and is priced 4/1, although it is runner up Wonder Of Wonders who heads the betting at 5/6 on with Boylesports, with Epsom fourth Blue Bunting the next best of the nine declarations.
William Haggas's Dancing Rain will bid for further Classic glory and remarkably still has plenty to prove over the one mile, four furlong trip. The 3-year-old filly set a steady pace and quickened on the home straight to beat Wonder Of Wonders by three quarters of a length, but it was the manner in which she was allowed to take the lead unchallenged that has left many with doubts over the Epsom form.
Aidan O'Brien's Wonder Of Wonders is well backed to turn the tables on Dancing Rain at the Curragh and is expected to kick on from Epsom, with connections hoping for a better pace in the Irish equivalent of this exciting Group One for fillies. O'Brien also enters 100/1 shots Amazing Beauty and Gemstone as he looks for his fourth win in the last six renewals of this Irish Classic, but it is Wonder Of Wonders who heads the betting and who should enjoy the Curragh track. However, at 5/6 she looks far too short and it could be prudent to look elsewhere.
The Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained Blue Bunting was unlucky at Epsom as she was blocked off in mid-field on the run in and never had a chance to make an impression. The former 1000 Guineas winner should enjoy the mile and a half distance and can be backed at 9/2 in the betting with Boyles, although Godolphin have never won the Irish Oaks.
Godolphin will attempt to rectify that stat this weekend, as Saeed Bin Suroor's 33/1 punt Rumh looks to improve on a disappointing run in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. However, that run came on soft ground and with rain predicted at the Curragh over the weekend, it is difficult to see her turning the tables on Ribblesdale winner Banimpire.
Jim Bolger's Banimpire could be the value pick for the race at 9/1 in the betting with Boylesports.com. The filly showed tremendous battling qualities to come back to beat Field Of Miracles at Ascot and has now won five of seven starts. She has great stamina and all of her wins this season have come over longer distances, including the last two over a mile and a half, and with doubts over the Epsom form she could well provide some fantastic value.
Meanwhile, Jessica Harrington's Laughing Lashes is available at 12/1 and will attempt to improve on a disappointing fifth in the 1000 Guineas and a much improved third in the Irish equivalent.
Jim Bolger's 100/1 shot Hurricane Havoc completes the field, but it is Bolger's Banimpire who could cause a surprise as all eyes focus on the three Epsom contenders.
