Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot kicks off with the exciting Norfolk Stakes as some of the leading flat racing juveniles compete in the five furlong sprint. Kevin Ryan's Bapak Chinta is a marginal favourite at 3/1 with Stan James for the Group Two race, although the draw could be crucial and we fancy Everyday Dave could take some beating.
The earlier races on the straight course at Royal Ascot have favoured those drawn high on the stands side rail. With that in mind Wesley Ward's Everyday Dave could be worth backing at odds of 9/2 from stall 16.
Ward became the first American trainer to claim a Royal Ascot winner two years ago and he has been vocal in building up his American Raider's chances this week. The gelding has been an impressive winner on his two outings so far as he won easily on debut at Keeneland before making all to win by eight lengths at Chantilly in France. The 2-year-old showed exceptional speed in both races and could enhance his reputation again tougher opposition this week.
Ante-post favourite Bapak Chinta could be inconvenienced by drawing stall number two but there is no doubting the potential of Kevin Ryan's colt. Bapak Chinta beat Frederick Engels when a well backed favourite on debut at Hamilton, where he travelled strongly before pulling clear. That win is all the more impressive when you consider Frederick Engels was a brilliant winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes on Tuesday, although he has since been diverted from the Norfolk Stakes.
Away from the leading two, trainer Richard Hannon goes in triple-handed for this juvenile sprint and Crown Dependency looks to be his leading hope at odds of 7/1 with StanJames.com. The colt was a fine maiden winner on debut at Goodwood over six furlongs last month, and he has plenty of scope for improvement.
Pyman's Theory will take on the boys after showing explosive pace in winning the National Stakes at Sandown. It was the filly's second win over five furlongs, although the concern for the 8/1 shot will be her third to Ebony Clarets on debut when well backed and a disappointing fifth at York in May.
Meanwhile, Mark Johnston's Bannock (8/1) was a hugely unfortunately runner up to Pyman's Theory at Sandown and looks to have the ability to turn the tables. The colt was second on debut at Doncaster and then comfortably beat mediocre fields at Redcar and Windsor, and he looks to have plenty of improvement in him from stall seven.
If the high draws are to prove important at Ascot again on Thursday, then Silverheels from draw 20 could be worthy of consideration at 7/1. Pail Cole's colt was an easy three and a quarter length debut winner at Windsor in April and has not raced since in preparation for Ascot.
An interesting each-way hope could come from Ed Dunlop's 16/1 punt Burwaaz and Dunlop himself was delighted to draw seventeen. The colt was runner up by a nose over six furlongs at Nottingham and has since reverted back to five furlongs when winning at Leicester.
