Scottish Grand National Tips: Lochan Lacha Is the One to Watch

Despite all the defections, the Scottish Grand National will still be an outstanding event with plenty in with chances to take the top prize. There is none however in with a better chance than the Ferdy Murphy trained, Poker De Sivola, recent winner of the National Hunt Challenge Chase Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. Although he is likely to go off favourite, and it has to be said that favourites do not have a great record in the race, he fits the usual trends that are normally associated with a Scottish Grand National winner. Currently he is a best price of 6/1 with Ladbrokes.com but the general consensus is that he will shorten even further and become one of the hottest favourites ever for the race.

Murphy as we all know has already won this race three times and he knows that his horse is the one to beat in the race, but is there a genuine rival who could do so?

There has been a rush on the market for the Paul Nicholls trained Meanus Dandy, winner last time out of the PaddyPower.com Chase at Sandown Park, who comes to Ayr without a penalty and on a great mark. He has been backed into 7/1 from 25s within the last week and his case has been considerably helped by the appointment of Paddy Brennan for the ride. Brennan won the race last season on Hello Bud.

With strong cases for both Poker De Sivola and Meanus Dandy, it is difficult to find a likely runner who can beat them, however, Tony Martin, the wily Irish trainer, has Lochan Lacha in the race and who has the right type of credentials to win. Fourth recently in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park, this 9 year old was originally entered for the Irish Grand National at Easter but he failed to get in the starting line up. He therefore comes to Ayr as ‘fresh as a daisy’and will run on ground that he seriously enjoys. At 16/1 with Ladbrokes and shortening, Lochan Lacha is the one we shall be on come Saturday afternoon and would advise at least an each way bet!
