Paco Boy Great Odds to Defeat Goldikova in Prix Jacques Le Marois

The outstanding Freddie Head trained, Goldikova will be looking to break the record held by Miesque as she attempts to win her 11th Group One race in the Prix Jacques Le Marios at Deauville on Sunday. The five year old filly, who will be retired to stud at the end of this season is a red hot favourite to win the race with odds of 4/6 from Ladbrokes but her main rival, Paco Boy is being well supported with odds currently of 9/4.

The two outstanding milers met in the Group One, Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot which the filly won by a neck a distance which Richard Hannon, trainer of Paco Boy, believes he can bridge in this latest meeting. Certainly, Paco Boy will be ridden differently by jockey, Richard Hughes and with only eight in the field, two of which are pacemakers, he will have a much easier time of it when tracking her.

Head has admitted that Paco Boy represents a very stiff challenge but believes his filly did not run at her best at Royal Ascot, believing that she does nit travel well and the trip from France upset her routine. But he said that she is at her absolute best at home and has come on from winning her last race a fortnight ago in the Group One Prix Rothschild, in which she had Group One, Falmouth Stakes winner, Music Show, three lengths adrift. Paco Boy has not been seen on track since his defeat by Goldikova but is said to be in top form at home where there is much stable and jockey confidence behind him.

Makfi, winner of the Newmarket 2000 Guineas makes a welcome return following a disappointing run in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot where he was well behind the winner, Canford Cliffs. However, it is clear that he was not 100% that day and is expected this time to get back to his best in this. At 6/1 with Ladbrokes Bookmakers he represents outstanding value for a Classic winner, who has already proved himself at the highest level.

Apart from Makfi we do not see any threats to the two principals in the race and believe that they will are a very sound forecast bet, however we are not totally convinced that Goldikova will get home this time in front and would be inclined to take the better 9/4 value on Paco Boy.
