Juddmonte Grand Prix De Paris Odds: Jan Vermeer Can Win for Ballydoyle

The Aidan O’Brien trained, Jan Vermeer, fourth in the Epsom Derby behind Workhorse, takes on the French Derby second Planteur in this valuable Group One, Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp on Wednesday evening. The two head the market with Jan Vermeer the narrow 5/2 favourite, while Planteur is 3/1. These odds are available via Bet365.

Planteur had Jan Vermeer’s stablemate Cape Blanco well behind him when second to Lope De Vega in the French Derby on the 6th June, which in theory gives him a decided advantage over Jan Vermeer in this. This is particularly so because Jan Vermeer could only manage third place behind Cape Blanco in the subsequent Irish Derby at the end of June. However, punters are strongly advised to ignore Cape Blanco’s French Derby run as he was far from right that day as he proved when bouncing back so emphatically at the Curragh.

Planteur, nonetheless comes to this race in good form and with an excellent race record. He has not finished outside of the first two in any of his five career races to date and there is every reason to believe he will have improved since the French Derby.

Behkabad, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, was fourth in the French Derby and should be held in this by Planteur, however, he was badly bumped in that race three furlongs out, but still showed a lot of class by managing to mount a challenge when the race was already lost. He will be a big danger to the two favourites and with odds of 4/1, also from bet365 he might just be the horse to be on.

Ice Blue has plenty to find with Planteur and Behkabad from the French Derby and is probably best ignored, however the very progressive, Andre Fabre runner, Goldwaki is one we like the look of for each way purposes. Winner of all four starts this season, beginning with a maiden, through to Listed and finally a Group Three success last time out, this colt is a good looking bet at 6/1 with bet365.com to provided Fabre with back to back winners of this race, that said, we think punters would be better off backing him in the forecast or on an each way basis.
