Denman Massive Odds On for Aon Chase

Check the odds for the 2011 renewal of the AON Chase.

The Paul Nicholls trained, Denman will look to repeat his winning success of 2008 when he won this race at a canter by 20 lengths from Regal Heights. That said he will also want to forget the outcome last season when the race was used for his comeback run after heart surgery had kept him off course since he had won the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup. Due to a snowbound Newbury, last year’s race in fact was run at Kempton under the name of the Levy Board Chase and was won by the David Pipe trained, Madison Du Berlais, who left Denman in his wake when winning by over 20 lengths.

It was clear that Denman was nowhere near back to his best in that race, but from what has been seen of him so far this year, he most certainly is which is why he will go off as an almost unbackable favourite. Currently the ten year old is around the 1/7 odds on mark, with the next best in the market, being the Charlie Mann trained, Air Force One at around the 12/1; these odds are available from Paddy Power. The race will be Denman’s main warm up for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month and will also be the first time that he will be partnered by champion jockey, Tony McCoy.

With the odds so skinny, punters might want to consider the dual forecast as an alternative bet, especially with such a small field of just six runners negating the possibility of each way betting. We therefore would like to suggest that the Air Force One might be the one. This eight year old is a sound jumper who has won at Grade three level and is said to be in good form at home. He should be around the 12/1 mark at the off, which would make the forecast bet with Denman a very viable option.

Another interesting runner is Tricky Trickster, also trained by Paul Nicholls who is being aimed at the Aintree Grand National in April. A new recruit acquired from the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard, this horse was the winner of the National Hunt Challenge Chase at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival and ran with great credit when second in a modest hurdle event at the end of last month, which should have put him in good form this. Tricky Trickster, will be ridden by Ruby Walsh and is likely to go off at around the 14/1 mark with paddypower Bookmakers.
