Dubai Racing Carnival Opening Night Betting Preview

The Dubai Racing Carnival gets underway once again with the opening meeting at Meydan racecourse this coming Thursday. Already bookmakers are reporting plenty of betting interest and expect to be busy throughout the seven race card, the main feature of which is Round 1 of the Group 3 Al Maktoum Challenge at 6.15pm.

The evening gets off to a fantastic start with the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial, which although only a Conditions race will eventually become a Group affair as the race evolves. The race has attracted some outstanding fillies, three of which come from the stables of Mike De Kock and are all in with genuine chances. His principle runner appears to be Empire Rose, a winner last time out in South Africa, but he also runs Mahbooba a dual winner from three starts, who is said to be in great form at home. The one we like however for this is the Herman Brown trained Chocolicious who holds Mahbooba based on their last run against each other and who has also won twice from three starts. Ryan Moore gets the ride!

The second race is a very competitive handicap over 7 furlongs on the turf track where once again Mike De Kock is well represented with four runners. It is a difficult race to find the winner however but one who is sure to go close is the Saeed Bin Suroor trained Ashram, who has acquitted himself well at Group level in the past and is on a good looking mark to run well in this. He is sure to go off as one of the favourites in the betting that will be available from paddypower

As far as the main feature is concerned at 6.15, punters would do well to follow the fortune of UK trainer, Luca Cumani who runs the very useful Mabait, who dead heated with former Group One winner, Rio De La Plata in the Listed Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract last year. This represents good form from a stable with a good record at Meydan, Mabait is a very consistent sort who always puts up a good show and his performance will provide Cumani with a guide as to his chances in the Godolphin Mile which comes up on Dubai World Cup night in March.

Favourite for this race will almost certainly be the Godolphin trained Mendip who has only lost once in four starts and that came in the UAE Derby where he finished third behind Musir. He is likely to attract a best price from Paddy Power
