Duke of York Stakes Betting: Main Aim Can Hit Target for Stoute

The Group 2, Duke of York Stakes to be held at the York ‘Dante’ meeting this week looks a compelling renewal, with the weights being headed by the dual Australian Group 1 winner, Starspangledbanner. Representing the Aidan O’Brien Ballydoyle stable, this 4 year old comes to Europe with a big reputation who has been backed into 5/1 with Ladbrokes.

Favourite in the betting however is the Sir Michael Stoute trained, Main Aim, who has not seen a winners enclosure since winning the Group 3, Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock 12 months ago. He ran with great speed when second behind Fleeting Spirit, in the 2009 July Cup, but his three starts since then have been disappointing. Nonetheless he has plenty of stable confidence behind him and we think he may well have found his true level in this. Main Aim can be backed currently at 5/2.
