2010 Grand National Betting: Mon Mome Aiming For Second National Win

The nation will stop this afternoon for the 2010 Grand National which as always is set to be one of the highlights of the sporting calendar, millions are expected to have a sneaky bet on the big race and there is some great value to be had at the moment. The winner last year was of course Mon Mome who came in at a huge price of 100/1 and he is back this year and has a real chance of making it back-to-back wins. Mon Mome has been in great form in recent weeks and can currently be backed at 12/1 with Paddy Power to make it a repeat victory for the horse and trainer Venetia Williams.

Mon Mome has been slashed in the market following his excellent run in the Gold Cup last month when he came in third when staying on well, and many believe he is a better horse this year than last. He is seven pounds higher in the handicap than last year but few would bet against him getting round meaning he has to have good claims. There are plenty of other runners with good chances with Big Fella Thanks for Paul Nicholls set to go off as the favourite after a good season. Ruby Walsh will be on board the horse that came 6th last year and he is currently priced at 10/1 with Paddy Power.com to claim the first win in the race for trainer Paul Nicholls.

There are plenty of horses further down the latest odds for the race with good chances and one that we like is Maljimar who may be capable of causing a surprise today. He has been aimed at this race for some time now and always performs best when fresh so should be watched closely. His last run was a good third at Cheltenham in December and he has been preparing for the National ever since, Maljimar is currently priced at a good looking 28/1 with Paddy Power which looks good each/way value. It is a very difficult race to call this year but we feel Mon Mome has a great chance of claiming his second win in the race, he is improving as he showed at Cheltenham and looks a better horse this year compared to his win 12 months ago.
