1000 Guineas Betting

The 1000 Guineas, which is the opening fillies Classic, was won in 2009 by Ghanaati, trained by Barry Hills, giving the popular trainer his second win in the race. There will be several fillies in this race who will go to Epsom the following month to challenge for the Epsom Oaks, the fillies equivalent of the Derby.

The race is run over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket, which is a straight but testing mile. When looking at the ante-post racecard it is worth noting that those who win the 1,000 Guineas have usually been well ridden by jockeys who can judge the pace of the race the best and who are strong in the final furlong.

It is only open to three year olds and the race was co-founded by the same man, Sir Charles Bunbury, who founded the world famous Epsom Derby. The race itself is also part of the Fillies Triple Crown which concludes with the St Legers Classic.
