Nicky Henderson's Oscar Whisky will bid to get his season back on track in Saturday's Grade Two Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham. The 6-year-old is set to go off favourite at odds of 4/6 with bookmaker Paddy Power for the two and a half mile contest, despite falling on his reappearance last month.
Oscar Whisky fell at the last when chasing eventual winner Overturn home in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot. Henderson's gelding looked set to offer a real challenge to Overturn, who has since gone on to win the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, but he will need to bounce back from that disappointment quickly.
Henderson, who won this race with Zaynar in 2009, has opted to step the Champion Hurdle third back in class in what the Irish trainer has called a' must win race'. Henderson is weighing up Oscar Whisky for a crack at the World Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival and he fancies he needs to win this weekend to prove his Grade One credentials.
In stark contrast to Oscar Whisky, Donald McCain's Any Given Day (9/2) was a winner on his seasonal reappearance as he won over this distance in a handicap hurdle at Haydock. The 6-year-old was second to Karabak in this race last year and will bid to turn the tables on Oscar Whisky from when the pair last met in January, with Oscar Whisky winning by seven lengths.
Elsewhere, The Knoxs looks an interesting entry for Paul Nicholls and could be worth a look from 6/1 with Paddy Power. The readily improving gelding had been chasing for Howard Johnson last season but won on his return to hurdles on his first start for Nicholls recently. The 7-year-old looks open to plenty of improvement and is on a three race winning run.
Jonjo O'Neill's Get Me Out Of Here (8/1) enjoyed a similar run at the start of his career as he won his first five starts but he has struggled since. The 7-year-old has failed to win since February 2010 and has plenty to find in this company after finishing fifth to Any Given Day at Haydock last month.
The consistent Cockney Trucker is available at 20/1 after finishing fifth over an extra furlong at Kempton last time. The 9-year-old often produces his best over shorter trips, with his four career wins coming around the 2 mile mark, although this looks a big task.
The front-running Jigsaw Man (50/1), who has not been seen since pulling up at Bangor in July, makes his seasonal debut but he has it all to do against this standard of opposition, with Oscar Whisky short priced to bounce back from last month's fall.
4/6 Oscar Whisky
9/2 Any Given Day
6/1 The Knoxs
8/1 Get Me Out Of Here
20/1 Cockney Trucker
50/1 The Jigsaw Man
