2010 Aintree Grand National Tips: Straight From the Horses Mouth

Having scanned the Internet high and low over the last couple of days, we have come across a multitude of Grand National Tips articles, which between them have accounted for at least 35 of the 40 runners. This of course does nothing more than confuse the punters who want nothing other than well informed assessments and not speculation.

Those who read us closely will remember that we provided State Of Play as our WIN tip last season and although he only managed fourth place we compensated by tipping Mon Mome as our EACH WAY option, who of course won the race with odds of 100/1.

Grand National Tip to Win – Big Fella Thanks

We make no apologies for doing so, but we are going to stick with the Paul Nicholls trained, race favourite, Big Fella Thanks. We seriously believe that this horse, who was sixth last year is the best handicapped runner in the race, particularly as he is now another year stronger but is carrying less weight than 2009. He is also a Good ground lover, which is what he will get for the race. Add to the mix that he looked mightily impressive when winning a top notch Handicap race last time out, he looks hard to oppose. With odds of 17/2 with Bet365 he is great value and strongly recommended.

Each Way Tip - Irish Raptor

Considered an Aintree specialist having finished second in the 2008 Topham Chase over these fences, but then going one better in 2009 by winning the same race in great style. He is particularly potent when running on ground either Good to Soft or Good and he is sure to get that for the race. His trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies, who has saddled two previous Grand National winners, believes him his best chance as well as a likely winner and although 11 years old now, he can most certainly get into the frame. He is currently a 28/1 shot with Bet365 which is fantastic value for a horse with a fantastic chance.
