The Cheltenham Festival is fast approaching and as ever there is huge ante-post interest in the race betting for March, with William Hill offering a betting market for a horse to win any race at the Festival. David Pipe's Grands Crus current holds entries for the RSA Chase and the Gold Cup and is available at 5/2 to win either of them.
Grands Crus is the 5/2 favourite for the RSA and is short priced for a potential battle with Kauto Star and Long Run in the Gold Cup, with connections leaning towards a mouth-watering contest against the latter. The 7-year-old was beaten by Big Buck's in the World Hurdle last year but has won all three starts this season, including the Feltham Novices and a win over Champion Court at Cheltenham. Champion Court has since improved that form by winning the Grade Two Dipper Novices at the same course last weekend.
Meanwhile, the unbeaten Fingal Bay is favourite for both the Albert Bartlett and Neptune at Cheltenham Festival and is 4/1 to win either of those races with Hills. Philip Hobbs' 6-year-old has won all five career starts to date, including the Grade One Challow Novices Hurdle, although connections have yet to decide on his final Cheltenham entry.
Voler La Vedette also holds several entries for the season's showpiece and is 4/1 to win a race, with Colm Murphy's mare well backed in the latest odds for the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle, the World Hurdle and Champion Hurdle. She is on a three race winning run after beating Mourad on her last two runs when taking on the boys in the Hatton's Grace (2m 4f) and the Christmas Hurdle (3m).
Nick Henderson's Oscar Whisky could oppose Voler La Vedette in either the Champion Hurdle or the World Hurdle as he holds entries for both and is 5/1 to win a race at the Festival. The 7-year-old has won both of his appearances as a short priced favourite at Cheltenham this season, although he was third to Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle and could be set for a tilt at the World Hurdle instead.
Peddlers Cross beat Oscar Whisky to second place in the Champion Hurdle last year but flopped badly at Kempton on Boxing Day. Donald McCain's 7-year-old, who could go for the Arkle, RSA or Jewson, was well beaten by Sprinter Sacre and is set to return to a left handed course before March, with WilliamHill.com going 11/2 that he is a winner at Cheltenham
Elsewhere, Jewson winner Noble Prince is 6/1 to win another Festival race and the son of Montjeu is likely to go for the Ryanair rather than the Queen Mother Champion Chase this term.
Paul Nicholls' Supreme Novices winner Al Ferof also holds a Queen Mother entry, as well as an Arkle entry, and the French import is 7/1 to add to his Festival tally. The 7-year-old went unbeaten in 2011 and is set to step out of novice company in the Victor Chandler Chase this month.
Robert Hennessy's Rubi Light, third in the Ryanair last season, is 8/1 for a Festival victory and is currently priced up for another crack at the Ryanair and for a bold Gold Cup bid this season.
