If you haven't been living under a rock all week you'll be well aware that the biggest steeplechase in the world is taking place at Aintree on Saturday afternoon in the shape of the 2011 Grand National. Forty runners will go to post in this very British of sporting occassions which carries many admirers the world over. The tape goes up on the 2011 renewal at 4:15pm on Saturday 9th April and if you're not in front of a telelvision there's plenty of places to watch the race live online for free or the cost of a bet on the race.
For people wanting to watch the race for free, the BBC will be showing the race in full via their website to people based in the UK. However, what is the Grand National without having a bet on it? For as little as the cost of a £1 bet you catch watch the 2011 Grand National streamed live to your computer with bookmaker Paddy Power. And that's not all. All new betting accounts opened at Paddy Power are entitled to a free bet up to the value of £50. Just open an account with Paddy Power via any of the links on the Betting Directory and you'll be entitled to this free bet. You can have as little as £10 to trigger a matched bet of £10 if £50 sounds a little steep and you'll automatically be able to watch the race live on your computer.
Added to this, Paddy Power are offering an extra place on their each-way terms. Usually a race of this type you'd get four places if betting on your horse to win each-way. If you backed Ballabriggs for example each-way, you're bet would be split in two, half of the bet would be on the horse to win the Grand National and the other half would be placed on the horse to finish in the top four. However, given that the Grand National is the biggest race of the year, Paddy Power are offering that one extra place, so if Ballabriggs were to finish fifth, you'd still get paid out on the place part of your each-way bet at a quarter of the odds. Each-way betting just gives you that extra chance to get some returns and Paddy Power are amongst the bookmakers who offer this little bit extra.
It looks as if last year's winner Don't Push It may very well go off the favourite on Saturday afternoon. Sports Personality of the Year winner A P McCoy will once again be in the saddle bidding to ride the first horse to back to back wins in the Grand National since the great Red Rum. Don't Push It is a 10/1 shot to win with Paddy Power and is sure to go off at a shorter price than that come the race. What A Friend is another horse to gain plenty of support this week, with punters grasping onto the hope that owner Sir Alex Ferguson will be as successful a racehorse owner than he is a football manager. What A Friend is 12/1 third favourite behind last year's winner and long time favourite The Midnight Club, who heads the betting at odds of 9/1.
9/1 The Midnight Club
10/1 Don't Push It
12/1 What A Friend
12/1 Backstage
12/1 Oscar Time

16/1 Big Fella Thanks
