Punchestowns remains favourite in RSA Chase betting

It was a mixed day for Nicky Henderson's Cheltenham Festival hopefuls on Saturday as the Labourn based trainer saddled two winners out of a possible four favourites with Festival ambitions next March. Henderson probably found out more about the two losers than the two winners, as both Binocular and Punchestowns won their respective Sandown contests as long odds on favourites.

Binocular's win in the toteplacepot Contenders Hurdle at Sandown did little to impress the bookmakers with Boylesports keeping last years favourite for the Champion Hurdle a solid 7/1 chance for the 2010 renewal in March. This was nothing more than a schooling exercise for the JP McManus owned six year old and jockey Tony McCoy was rather downbeat about his performance after the race.

Henderson's other Sandown winner Punchestowns was also an odds on favourite on Saturday who won comfortably, despite blundering at the seventh fence. An eight length winner this race was a good blow out for the RSA Chase where he remains a solid 3/1 market favourite for the race with Boylesports.

Henderson saddled the 10/1 best priced second favourite for the Triumph Hurdle in the toteswinger Juvenile Novices' Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday but a dreadful run, finishing a distance back in last of the finishers have led to many bookmakers scrapping the four year old from the betting for March's juvenile showpiece.  Mad Max was also another disappointing losing favourite for the Henderson yard, this time up at Doncaster where he finished third.
