Dunguib became the hottest favourite for the Supreme Novices Hurdle for several years after he trotted up once again, this time to win the Deloitte Hurdle at Leopardstown. Never off the bridle, Dunguib easily took care of the Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh mount of Fionnegas, with Some Present a further 11 lengths adrift in third.
It was the 7 year olds fourth consecutive win over hurdles, who as a result has now had his odds trimmed for Cheltenham Festival opener to a best price of even money with Ladbrokes, although that price will be under pressure, with all other Bookmakers having him at odds on.

Dunguib punters are advised that the Supreme Novice Hurdle has not got the best record when it comes to winning favourites, with only four in the last 20 years and none since Brave Inca won in 2004. Dunguib therefore will be looking to buck the trend, but on this evidence he should have little in the field to prevent him.
Second favourite at around the 8/1 mark is the Phillip Hobbs trained, Menorah, who looked an outstanding prospect when winning the William Hill.com – Bonus 25 Novices Hurdle at Kempton Park on Boxing Day. The 4 year old won that race by 12 lengths from the highly regarded Nicky Henderson trained, Bellvano who was a further 19 lengths clear of the useful Dr Livingstone. It was an impressive performance from a young novice who is sure to improve again for the run. Menorah can also be backed with Ladbrokes.

The other novice who has attracted plenty of attention is the Dermot Weld youngster, Rite Of Passage, who only won his first race over hurdles last month but looked mightily impressive when doing so. Rite Of Passage was also third behind Dunguib in the 2009 Champion Bumper at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival. He is around 12/1 for the race.
