Zaynar, trained by Nicky Henderson remains favourite for the Champion Hurdle on the first day of the 2010 Cheltenham Festival. The five year old, who won the Triumph Hurdle at the 2009 Festival has odds of around 4/1 but punters can still get excellent value with the 5/1 on offer from Paddy Power.
Henderson and his Seven Barrows team won the race in 2009 with a gritty performance from Punjabi, who held off Celestial Halo in a terrific finish. It was the stables first success in the race since way back in 1987 when the great See You Then won the race for the third time in succession. This year the same team could well be accused of having a stranglehold on the race with Zaynar and Punjabi being joined in the field by the 2009 favourite, Binocular. All three are in with great chances and are high up in the betting with Punjabi a best price of 12/1 with William Hill and Binocular even shorter at 8/1 with Ladbrokes

Celestial Halo trained by Paul Nicholls will also be in the field with the hope of going one better and giving Nicholls his first win in the race. He is rated a 10/1 chance with Paddy Power, which we think are generous odds as he will be sure to improve on his second place behind Khyber Kim in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham in December; Punjabi, incidentally was fourth in that race. Khyber Kim is highly regarded in fact by the Nigel Twiston-Davies stable, who believe he will improve too. He has odds of 12/1 also with Paddy Power.

The Irish will come to the race with a very strong two prong challenge firstly from the Charlie Byrnes trained Solwhit who has won seven of his last nine races, which included the 2009 Irish Champion Hurdle last May and the December Festival Hurdle last month. His only recent reverse came in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle in November when he had to be content with third place behind Go Native. Solwhit has odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes
Go Native in fact is the second Irish prong who, if his Fighting Fifth form is anything to go by will come to the race with a great chance, particularly as he followed that victory up with a win in the Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day. Go Native was the Supreme Novice winner at the 2009 Festival and he also has odds of 6/1 with bet365.
9/2 Zaynar, 11/2 Solwhit, 6/1 Go Native, 7/1 Binocular, 10/1 Celestial Halo, Punjabi, 11/1 Khyber Kim, 12/1 Starluck, Mikael DHaguenet, 14/1 Dunguib, 16/1 Voler La Vedette, 20/1 Sublimity, 33/1 BAR.
