Paul Nicholls Can Win Grand National With Big Fella Thanks or Tricky Trickster

With the current favourite, Big Fella Thanks and the earlier favourite, Tricky Trickster heading his multi-entry team, Paul Nicholls surely has a huge chance of landing the Aintree Grand National for the first time. Currently Big Fella Thanks has so far been backed into as short as 7/1 with Ladbrokes , making him a pretty hot favourite who, if anything, is likely to get shorter before the race starts.

Punters warmed to this horse after he won the Grade 3, Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury last month where it was realised that the 8 year old will be running off a terrific mark at Aintree, carrying less than what he carried last year when he finished in a fantastic sixth position. Add to the mix that first choice stable jockey, Ruby Walsh, twice a Grand National winning jockey, has opted to ride him ahead of Tricky Trickster then it is clearly seen why he should be such a hot favourite.

Tricky Trickster who was originally with the Nigel Twiston-Davies team has been a revelation this season, after finishing last season off with a Cheltenham Festival win in the National Hunt Chase. His best run this year came in the Grade 2, Aon Chase, where he took full advantage of the fall of stablemate, Denman to finish like a greyhound and win the race by just edging out 2009 Irish Grand National winner, Niche Market. Tricky Trickster, who is only a seven year old warmed up for Aintree with an attempt in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but he ran disappointingly, which effectively cost him favouritism for the ‘National’, for which he is now a 14/1 shot with Ladbrokes

Nicholls is also likely to run, My Will, who was third in 2009 and who also should not be discounted, as well as Nozic, a former Grade 3 winner, who will be ridden by last year’s winning jockey, Liam Treadwell.
