Ladbrokes bookmakers are offering a 'non runner no bet' opportunity for punters betting on the King George VI Chase. So you can get your bet in early for the prestigious Boxing Day race at Kempton and if your horse doesn't run you get your stake back. The race itself is all about Kauto Star's attempt to win the race for a fifth time, after Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander was ruled out due to a leg injury.
Kauto Star, trained by Paul Nicholls, has dominated this race in recent years and is going for an astonishing, record breaking fifth consecutive win in the King George VI Chase. The 10-year-old dominates betting and is odds on 11/10 favourite with Ladbrokes.com, and you can also have a punt on Kauto Star to win the race by 20 lengths or more at 6/1. Considering he won by 36 lengths from Madison Du Berlais in 2009 it might be worth a look.
His trainer Paul Nicholls feels his horse's season is building up nicely as he won the Champion Chase in his last outing at Down Royal recently. Although there has been some concern over who will ride Kauto Star at Kempton as his usual jockey Ruby Walsh is out with a broken leg and his replacement Noel Fehily dislocated his wrist at Newbury. Fehily is expected to be fit though and should race Master Minded in the Tingle Creek Chase on 11th December as he makes his return.
Following the withdrawal of one of Kauto Star's main rivals in Imperial Commander because of injury, it is worth looking elsewhere for some value. Away from the experienced duo of Kauto Star and Imperial Commander it is Long Run who has been installed as second favourite for the race with Ladbrokes bookmakers. The 5-year-old is an 11/2 bet currently and represents a young pretender to Kauto Star's crown. It will take something special to beat Kauto Star but Nicky Henderson's Long Run has performed well, finishing third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase in November and winning last year's Feltham Novices Chase at Kempton.
Meanwhile Tom George's Nacarat is 12/1 with Ladbrokes.com and the Charlie Hall Chase winner could be worth a punt depending on the ground on Boxing Day. The 9-year-old performed poorly on soft ground as he finished fourth to Imperial Commander in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November. He fell away badly and his ability to last the distance on softer ground may be a concern, but if the ground is right he could be well worth a look in the betting for the King George.
