Fairyhouse hosted a top class weekend of racing and there were plenty of Irish movers in the Cheltenham Festival betting following Sunday's Grade One races. Bog Warrior was the biggest success story from the Emerald Isle after his Drinmore Novices win and he has been installed at a best price of 10/1 for the RSA Chase with Paddy Power.
Tony Martin's gelding romped to an impressive 31 length win in the Grade One Drinmore as he made it two from two over fences. The 7-year-old could bid to give Ireland a fourth successive winner in the RSA Chase in March, although PaddyPower have also priced him 20/1 for the Arkle. The RSA Chase seems the likelier route as Martin has indicated that 3 miles plus would be his preferred trip and he is likely to next be seen in action at Leopardstown's Christmas Meeting.
The Drinmore Chase saw First Lieutenant drift out in the RSA betting though after Mouse Morris's gelding blundered and was later found to have burst a blood vessel. He had started as 5/4 favourite at Fairyhouse and was as short as 10/1 for the RSA, but PaddyPower.com have opted to ease him out to 14/1. World Hurdle runner up Grands Crus (7/2) and Bobs Worth (6/1), winner on his last six starts, remain at the head of the betting.
Also on Sunday, Voler La Vedette beat the boys to record her first Grade One victory in the Hatton's Grace Hurdle. Colm Murphy's mare jumped stylishly and accelerated away to defeat 5/4 ante-post favourite Mourad, with PaddyPower swiftly clipping her in for the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle. The 7-year-old is a best priced 8/1 from 12/1 and she is next likely to be seen at Leopardstown at Christmas, although Murphy has hinted that she might not run at Cheltenham in four months time.
JCB Triumph Hurdle runner up Unaccompanied is currently joint second favourite at 8/1 for the David Nicholson, although Willie Mullins defending champion Quevega remains the hot favourite at 6/4.
Mullins enjoyed success at Fairyhouse at the weekend as his Sous Les Cieux enhanced a burgeoning reputation. Mullins cannot talk highly enough of his gelding, who won the Royal Bond Novices Hurdle. The 5-year-old hit the front from the turn in as he handed Mullins a fourth win in the race after starting as the 6/4 favourite.
PaddyPower have installed Sous Les Cieux at 12/1, behind Steps To Freedom (10/1) and Waaheb (10/1), for the Supreme Novices Hurdle, although Mullins has indicated that he might prefer a longer trip, with paddypower also installing him at 12/1 for the Neptune Novices Hurdle.
Meanwhile, Venture Capital won a 2 mile bumper at Fairyhouse and is now a 16/1 chance in the Champion Bumper for trainer Philip Fenton, who won the race with Dunguib in 2009.
