Champion Hurdle hero to storm to Aintree Hurdle win on Thursday
We are treated to a stellar first day's action of Aintree's Grand National meeting, and one of the feature races will come at 3:25pm as Nicky Henderson's Champion Hurdle hero Buveur D'air will aim to build on that fine victory at last month's Cheltenham Festival, and it's no surprise to see the Seven Barrows inmate installed as a red-hot favourite for the Aintree Hurdle, which will a field of six head to the 2m 4f start.
- Buveur D'air won the Champion Hurdle last month
- The New One won this race in 2014
- Buveur D'air won the Top Novices' Hurdle at this meeting 12 months ago

Buveur D'air Can Ease To Grade 1 Victory
Unbeaten this season, Buveur D'air produced a sensational performance to storm to a four-and-a-half length victory in the Champion Hurdle last month, and if the JP McManus-owned raider is in the same sort of form at Aintree on Thursday then has to take the world of beating, and at 2/5 with Betfair Sportsbook, he could well be regarded as the banker of the three-day meeting on Merseyside.
A fluent round of jumping at Cheltenham propelled him into a positive position, and turning for home he duly picked up with aplomb and quickened in the style of a top quality horse, and having won the Top Novices' Hurdle at this meeting 12 months ago, then it highlights his ability to act on this quicker track, and it's hard to look away from him for this contest.
He is yet to be tested at 2m 4f, but he was certainly not stopping in the closing stages of the Champion Hurdle, and with some of the elite two-mile hurdlers not taking their chance in this contest then he is the class of the race, and could well emulate his Prestbury Park success, and win with a fair bit in hand.
The New One And Identity Thief The Main Dangers
The New One tasted victory in this race in 2014 for Nigel Twiston-Davies, and the nine-year-old will be one of the leading rivals to Buveur D'air, but the Naunton inmate has found life tough at the very top in recent years, and while this distance of two-and-a-half miles arguably is his best distance, it's hard to see him having enough quality to turn around his recent Champion Hurdle form with Buveur D'air, as he was well beaten in fifth, so at 7/1 with bet365 is one to avoid.
Henry de Bromhead's Identity Thief has struggled since going novice chasing, and having bypassed the Cheltenham Festival will be hoping that a return to hurdles can see his form improve, and at 9/1 with BetVictor could offer more attractive each-way value punters looking to avoid backing the red-hot jolly.
However, he is one that can excel in more testing conditions, and with the ground drying out on Merseyside then that may not play into his favour, and he will have to play a supporting role to Buveur D'air, who looks tough to discount on so many fronts.
My Tent Or Yours Is Best Of The Rest
Second in the race last year, My Tent Or Yours will add more strength to the Nicky Henderson challenge, and he showed last month that the fire in his belly still shines bright, as he chased home his stablemate Buveur D'air in the Champion Hurdle to record yet another runner-up spot.
Nevertheless, the 10/1 shot with Betfred is one that may not enjoy the step up to 2m 4f, as he is always one to travel eye-catchingly well before his run just fizzles out, so he may just be vulnerable to a better stayer in the closing stages, and he may struggle to chase home his stablemate this time around.
Rashaan and Old Guard, both 40/1 outsiders with Ladbrokes, have some decent form on their CV, but they are certainly not Grade 1 performers, and they will be battling it out for the wooden spoon here, in a race that can go to the market leader with no worries at all.
