65 runners left in Grand National at five day declarations stage

There were ten absentees from the entry list for the 2010 Grand National at the five-day declaration stage on Easter Monday and only seven from within the top forty in the weights. The most notable absentee was former Welsh National winner Notre Pere, who now leaves Madison Du Berlais to carry the burden of top weight for the race on Saturday. The decs had very little effect on the betting for the race, as Big Fella Thanks remains the 7/1 favourite with online bookmaker Bet365.

Other absentees from the entry list on Monday were the Charlie Mann trained Air Force One, who will probably go to Sandown for a tilt at the Bet365 Gold Cup, whilst Irish trained Deutschland, Dooney's Gate, Chelsea Harbour and Equus Maximus all miss the race. As a result, The Package is now definitely in the race and as a result the David Pipe trained novice has been clipped in to 14/1.

Recent William Hill Trophy winner at the Cheltenham Festival Chief Dan George still requires at least nine horses to come out of the race later this week to stand a chance of running, although you can still back him at 20/1 with Bet 365, non runner no bet.

After a dry day at Aintree on Sunday, officials are confident that there will be perfect jumping ground of good to soft for the Grand National on Saturday. The going will be closely monitored this week by champion jockey Tony McCoy, who has a pick of rides for the big race. Both Can't Buy Time and Don't Push It have received support in the betting at bet365 in the past week with McCoy likely to partner the former if the track speeds up this week. Both horses have been backed in to 20/1.

The three-day Aintree Festival kicks off on Thursday with 21 high quality National Hunt races to bet on, including the John Smith's Grand National.
