Selecting the winner from the 15 probable starters in this Blue Square Chase at Doncaster is no easy task, particularly with the race being such an open looking affair. The Paul Nicholls trained pair, Free World and Imsingingtheblues have attracted most of the betting interest thus far, but with still plenty of time before the off much can happen in the market.
Despite not seeing a winners enclosure since November 2008, Free World has been backed in from 8/1 to 11/2 over the last few days and is sure to start favourite come Saturday. His stablemate Imsingingtheblues is next best in the market at 8/1 following the withdrawal of the Alan King trained, Oh Crick. These odds are courtesy of Boylesports.
Form and Betting for Blue Square Chase
Free World has often disappointed his followers with less than gutsy performances in the final stretches of races. He has been second on the last three occasions which were in races that could be argued were a lower quality than this!
Imsingingtheblues meanwhile won this 12 months ago and comes to the race having been a creditable third to the very useful, Petit Robin, last time out in the Grade Two, Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton over Christmas. Given that he will come on for the race he should be there or thereabouts, but whether he is a likely winner is doubtful.

Leos Lucky Star has been well supported but with only a single win over the bigger obstacles and that in a modest Beginners Chase we fail to see the attraction. It is true that the David Pipe yard is in great form at present and the horse has a big advantage at the weights. However there is a number of quality horses in this field with far more experience that have better claims.
One such horse is the Ferdy Murphy trained, Kalahari King, who is a Grade One horse and who was an unlucky second behind Forpadydeplasterer in the 2009 Arkle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham. It is the right time of year for the Murphy stable to start firing and although Kalahari King is only having his first run of the season, he has a great deal of class and is capable of carrying top weight around this course. He would be the one we would advise with odds shortening all the time and now at 8/1 with Boylesports
